desu - ka
“ですか”
Desuka Films is a London based, Interior Design and real estate videography company creating beautiful and engaging content.
“Simply put, we are design capturing specialists.”
A letter from the Founder.
— James Risdon
I’ve always had a fascination with the Japanese aesthetic and the concepts that arise from such a meticulous culture.
From Kaizen, which is a Japanese word that means continuous improvement, to ‘Mono no aware’ which teaches us to seek beauty and awareness in the transient.
And ultimately the concept of Ikigai: a concept that combines the terms iki, meaning “alive” or “life,” and gai, meaning “benefit” or “worth.” When combined, these terms mean that which gives your life worth, meaning, or purpose.
In 2018, fusing my passions for creative filmmaking, music and design, a path emerged. And aptly, a name followed from the Japanese language:
ですか
Desu Ka pronounced “des ka” is how a question is formally ended in Japanese.
So it simply means:
“Is it?”
The ethos of questioning sits at the heart of Desuka.
Can something be done better - or different?
Whether in the relationships we cultivate with our clients, or the filming and editing process, Kaizen is carried forward into everything we do.
Over 5 years of filming and working with some of the world’s leading designers, we have developed a process that puts design at the forefront of our approach.
Simply put, we are design capturing specialists.
If you are a designer looking to capture your space in the way you see it - from the way the light hits the space, to the details no one will notice:
We are who you are looking for.
As well as the many designers we have worked with, we have also worked along side some of the best interiors photographers in the world.
From Ray Main, Julian Abrams, James McDonald to Kate Martin, Nico Wills.
Working seamlessly in tandem, and efficient professionalism is what we do best.

With a keen interest in creative filmmaking, music and interior design, James combined his interests in 2018 - launching Desuka Films.
“Music is such an important aspect to filmmaking, and will often inform the pace and feeling of the visuals. It leads you through like a narrator. I love music.”
